Same-Sex Couple Rights Expanded in NY

12.16.08 | Sarah Harnisch

Married same-sex couples in New York state can now list both of their names on their children's birth certificates. It is a policy shift never before allowed. The decision echoes similar provisions in other states that allow gay marriages or civil unions. It is also one of many changes brought about since Governor David Paterson ordered state agencies to respect out-of-state gay marriages. The Health Department has agreed to the change. It goes into effect state-wide.
