Rec. pot is still a possibility in New York

The state legislative session is "supposed" to end today, but Democratic lawmakers are making a midnight push to pass a proposal to legalize recreational marijuana.

Republican Assemblyman Phil Palmesano notes, "no one wants to talk about the costs that are going to be involved for law enforcement,  and social service agencies."

Democrats in both chambers support legalizing recreational weed, but lawmakers have yet to strike a compromise.

State Senator Rob Ortt of Niagara Falls says he believes lawmakers could stay later in the week if Democrats believe they're close to a deal that could pass.

A bill unveiled earlier this week would eliminate most remaining criminal penalties for personal pot possession and use.
