PSA Campaign To Challenge Perceptions Of Islam
09.02.10 |
(Detroit, MI) -- An organization promoting Muslim civil rights has created a series of public service announcements to challenge critics of the religion. Three first responders in New York City on 9-11 who are Muslim appear in separate PSAs while another features interfaith representatives.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations is sending the PSAs to television stations across the country, hoping they will air as the anniversary of September 11th approaches. The effort comes as debate has intensified about a proposed Islamic community center near the former World Trade Center site and a suspected case of arson at a proposed mosque site in Tennessee. Dawud Walid with the Michigan Chapter of he Council on American-Islamic Relations says the PSA campaign is to change perceptions of the religion and answer questions for people confused about Islam.
