Poll: GOP Has Lead On Eve Of Midterm Elections

A newly released "USA Today"-Gallup poll finds Republicans have more of a commanding lead on the eve of the congressional elections than either party has had in more than 25 years. Of the more than 15-hundred people pollsters surveyed, 55 percent say they plan to vote for the Republican candidate. However 40 percent say they'll be voting for Democrats. This is the widest margin since Democrats held the advantage in the 1974 elections in the wake of Watergate. The poll also showed two-thirds of Democrats say Congress' biggest priority should be to pass a new economic stimulus bill. Whereas among Republicans, 38 percent believe the top priority is to repeal the new health care law and 30 percent said cutting spending.
The poll taken Thursday through Sunday has a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.
