Pennsylvania Teen Wins National Spelling Bee

The nation has a new spelling bee champion.  Sukanya Roy of South Abington, Pennsylvania is the winner of the the 84th Scripps National Spelling Bee.  The 14 year old came in first in the finals last night by correctly spelling the word "cymotrichous" (It means having wavy hair).  Roy beat out runner-up Laura Newcombe of Toronto and 274 other young competitors from all over the world.  She won more than 40-thousand dollars in cash and prizes.
