Pennsylvania Businesses Pushing for Liquor Privatization

Business groups including drugstores, grocery stores and some beer distributors are asking lawmakers to approve sale of Pennsylvania's state stores and enact a full-scale liquor privatization plan by June 30. Business people behind the push say a piecemeal approach, such as approving some privatization now and trying for more in subsequent legislative sessions, would devalue the 600-plus stores. A plan by Senate Republican leaders wants to expand locations that sell beer and wine but maintain state stores, with more flexible hours and prices.
