Penn State University trustees have unanimously appointed their next president, Florida State’s Eric Barron. Barron, who has strong ties as a longtime professor and dean at Penn State was introduced Monday after Penn State’s trustees unanimously approved his appointment. Barron has been the president at Florida State since 2010, and he will succeed Rodney Erickson, who, instead of retiring, took over the reins in November 2011 as the Jerry Sandusky scandal rocked the university and community. Barron will be the 18th president in Penn State’s history and will oversee a world-class research institution with more than 98,000 students, a $4.4 billion budget and one of the largest alumni communities in the country.
