08.23.10 |
(Riyadh) -- Officials in Saudi Arabia are trying to mitigate a dispute that goes against the country's "eye for an eye" legal system. A Saudi man who became paralyzed in a fight is insisting his attacker suffer the same paralysis. He wants his attacker's spinal cord to be severed. Amnesty International is urging Saudi Arabia not to carry out the penalty.
A spokesman for the Saudi court said hospitals have tried to persuade the paralyzed man that an operation to sever his attacker's spinal cord could result in death. The officials are trying to get the man to accept financial compensation.
