PA Supreme Court strikes a blow to Gas Industry

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has ruled that municipalities can limit what drillers can do. By a vote of 4 to 2, the Court struck down a 2012 law that limited municipal powers on drillers.  The ruling is seen as a victory for property rights and a huge defeat for the shale gas industry.  This decision will essentially allow local and county governments to “zone out” gas drilling.  It could also interfere with millions of dollars in impact fees that municipalities receive from the shale gas industry.
