For over 50 years gasoline taxes have helped fund bridge and highway projects in Pennsylvania. As alternative energy and hybrid vehicles gain more traction, though, state lawmakers are worried gasoline tax revenues will decline.

State Representative Joseph Markosek says funding aging infrastructure repairs has become a huge problem. The Monroeville Democrat has introduced a resolution authorizing the Legislative Budget and Finance committee to study alternatives to gas taxes.

Markosek says a small vehicles would be equipped with a small chip capable of tracking mile driven, something that is sure to be unpopular with some residents.
