PA House speaker slams ED Sec. for suggesting schools may not open in fall

House Speaker Mike Turzai insists legislators and public officials also need to be consulted by the Pennsylvania secretary of education

The state's top elected Republican says education chief, Pedro Rivera, is causing "unnecessary anxiety" by suggesting COVID-19 will keep schools closed through the remainder of 2020.

Turzai says ".018 percent of Pennsylvania's population has died from coronavirus.

He adds the cost of not reopening school outweighs the benefits of keeping classes canceled.
