NY's Reproductive Care Act May Not Pass The State Senate

There's a bill our newsroom is closely watching in New York State called the Reproductive Care Act, that would allow partial birth abortions all nine months, and force faith based hospitals to offer abortions. It looks like Governor Andrew Cuomo may not be able to get it through the Senate. Senate Republican leader Dean Skelos said he doesn't think it's a well-thought-out piece of legislation. And he said "in New York, there is no parental consent or notification... you can pretty much have an abortion anytime you want. I think it's a non-issue." Cuomo may have to rely solely on Senate Democrats, but he needs all their votes and at least two have voted pro-life before, and a third sits and votes with Republicans.
