NY's comptroller calls for better notifications for devel. handicapped families

Tom DiNapoli's audit, just released, also says the state office for people with developmental disabilities doesn't always provide families and guardians with records they requested.

He said the state office of mental health was also failing to comply with a 2007 state law that ensures families and guardians are notified and can access records. The agency disagreed, saying it only needs to provide reports if a legal guardian makes a request.

DiNapoli says that needs to change.
