Officials in New York City say an 'al-Qaida sympathizer' who plotted to bomb post offices and police stations in New York City has been arrested and has ties to the Capital Region. On Sunday, officials announced the arrest of 27-year-old Jose Pimentel on numerous charges. They say Pimentel lived in the City of Schenectady for five years before moving back to the New York City area.
Pimentel was arrested Saturday. He is accused of having an explosive substance that he planned to use against others and property to terrorize the public. The New York Police Department's intelligence division was involved in the arrest. Schenectady police did say Pimentel had a history with the department. All police say for now is that they did have contact with Pimentel during his time living in the city.
