NY Supreme Court Judge Orders State Senators Back To Work
06.30.09 |
A New York Supreme Court judge is ordering the warring sides back to the state Senate for a working session this morning. Siding with New York Governor David Paterson in the now three-week long power struggle, the judge is ordering the Senate to convene for a special session at 10 a.m. Eastern time today. The judge also calls the Senate Republicans and Democrats meeting in separate, specials sessions, "fiction." The Republican coalition plans an appeal. But Senate Democratic leader John Sampson says Democrats are willing to take up non-controversial issues during the final Senate session in June, which he says does not include mayoral control of the city's public schools. The judge did not rule if the June 8th political coup was legal, which Republicans and two defiant Democrats claimed to have taken control of the Senate chamber.
