As schools districts across the Empire State face a shortfall of teachers, teacher union members and school leaders are working on ways to encourage future educators.

Jolene DiBrango with New York State Union of Teachers says one solution called Grow Your Own targets high school students to eventually teach in their own communities.

Added scholarship efforts are also being considered to draw newcomers to the profession.

Educators and students will meet later this month in Syracuse to discuss remedies to New York's lack of teachers.
