On the one year anniversary of the gun control law, a measure takes affect that makes it illegal in New York to buy ammunition unless a licensed dealer actually sees you. The requirement for face-to-face bullet sales is part of the SAFE act...signed into law one year ago today, January 15th, 2013 by Governor Cuomo. The law bans the sale of semi-automatic rifles and large-capacity magazines, requires federal background checks on private gun sales and imposes a felony charge for illegal gun possession. It has also drawn its’ share of lawsuits from gun rights groups who argue the SAFE Act infringes on Second Amendment rights. A federal judge upheld most provisions of the gun restrictions in a ruling two weeks ago - that ruling is being appealed.
