NY Governor Paterson to Introduce Same-Sex Marriage Bill

New York Governor David Paterson is poised to introduce legislation that would legalize same-sex marriage in the state of New York. Paterson is expected to announce the legislation this coming Thursday while he is in Manhattan. A similar bill passed the Assembly in 2007, but never made it out of the then-Republican-controlled state Senate.

Analysts say a same-sex marriage bill could still stall in the state Senate. Majority Leader Malcolm Smith says 32 votes would be needed for passage, and it not likely the bill would be put on the floor before they had those votes.
