NY Governor Asking For More Unemployment Funding

Governor Paterson is hoping to receive additional unemployment funding from the federal stimulus package. He has requested about 645-million dollars in federal stimulus money to help keep the state's unemployment system in business.

The governor has also proposed legislation to change the statewide benchmark used to determine when New Yorkers become eligible for federal funds to cover an extended 13 weeks of unemployment. However, the state's current benchmark probably will not be met this year.
