NY Gov. Cuomo announces measure to enhance highway worker safety

The "Slow Act," which stands for "Slow Down and Look Out for Highway Workers and Pedestrians Act imposes tough criminal penalties for violent actions against highway workers in construction zones.

Research shows over the last five years there's been an increase in the number of highway worker assaults: more than 900 have been reported to the state DOT.

Under the Slow Act, violent actions against highway workers would become a felony in New York.

This law would also ban drivers from entering active work zones unless they are directed by traffic control.
