Numbers Rising Of Teens Saying No To Sex
03.04.11 |
Not as many teens and young adults are sleeping around. According to a federal survey released Thursday, there's a rising proportion of kids ages 15 to 24 that are reporting that are still virgins. The percentage has risen in the past decade from 22 percent to 28 percent. That means nearly 1 in every 3 of our young people are abstaining from sex. The Illinois non-profit group Robert Crown Center for Health Education says it's because of what kids are being taught. The study did not go so far as to say it was abstinence-only education, but apparently, that's the message kids are getting from health class-- after hearing of the dangers of S.T.D.'s, AIDS, and pre-marital pregnancy. The Crown Center says the study shows how important it is to fund health education programs for teens.
