No deal on the New York budget

Many state lawmakers returned to their districts late yesterday after failing to reach a budget consensus with Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The state's fiscal year began on April 1st.

Earlier this week, the legislature passed a temporary spending plan to avoid a government shutdown.  That plan is in effect until May 31st.

The legislature has a two-week break that starts today.

This year's budget is the latest since 2010, when a deal was not reached until August.
