New Yorkers Are Leaving the State At An Alarming Pace

A new study shows the number of New Yorkers moving out of the state in the last decade totalled more then the populations of Buffalo, Rochester, and 3 downstate suburbs-- combined. The Empire Center for New York State Policy found 1-point-6 million people moved to other states between 2000 and 2010. Most were seeking warmer climates, better economies, and fewer taxes. Despite the numbers that moved, the state's overall population grew by 2 percent, to over 19 million people, mostly because of immigrants that moved to New York City. New York lost more people then any other state for the second decade in a row.
