All kids entering those two grades must be vaccinated against the disease before returning to school under a new state requirement that takes effect September 1st. Meningitis spreads easily in large groups and dormitory settings. It is a school requirement in more then 20 states, and many colleges require incoming students to have the vaccine.

This new requirement also applies to kids in private schools.
