New Wave of Thefts Hits Pennsylvania

The Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors said Wednesday that homeowners should be cautious of people who come to the door claiming to be surveyors. A rash of so-called “distraction thefts” has hit Pennsylvania, leaving some people vulnerable to the ploy. One person posing as a surveyor will distract a homeowner – possibly by asking them to show them a far property line – while another person goes into the house and takes items of value. Officials with the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors says legitimate surveyors should also be able to provide valid forms of identification, license numbers and business cards.
