New Jobless Claims Increase
08.12.10 |
The jobs market still appears to be shaky, with 484,000 new claims for unemployment benefits in the week ending August 7th. That's an increase of two-thousand initial claims from the previous week and the highest number of claims filed in nearly six months. The four-week moving average, which smoothes out weekly fluctuations, was 473,500, the highest level since mid-February. The rise of new claims for unemployment insurance came as a surprise to economists, who had forecasted claims to drop. The total number of claims filed for the week ending July 31st, including continuing claims, was just over 4.4-million.
