New Drug Law in Effect

A new drug law provision takes affect today in New York. It limits the ability of employers to see the drug offenses of rehabilitated offenders who return to the work force. Governor Paterson says sealing past convictions helps former abusers re-enter society but republicans and several district attorneys say employers have the right to know this sort of information, especially if the prospective employee works at a day-care, school, or nursing home.
