Navy Ship Made With WTC Steel Arrives In New York
11.03.09 |
The USS New York, a Navy ship made with World Trade Center steel, arrived in New York City Monday morning. The brand new one-billion-dollar vessel sailed up the Hudson River past Ground Zero in tribute to the victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks of 2001. The event was marked with a 21-gun salute. The USS New York then docked near the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum, where it will be open for public tours until November 12th. The ship will be commissioned on Saturday.
The USS New York features seven-point-five tons of steel from the World Trade Center in its bow. Some of the hundreds of sailors and Marines serving on the ship lost relatives when the September 11th attacks occurred.
