Motorists continue to catch a break as the price of gasoline dropped seven cents a gallon over the past two weeks. According the Lundberg Survey of gas stations nationwide, the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline is two-dollars-52 cents. That's over a dollar less than it was this time last year. Survey chief Trilby Lundberg says the decline parallels a decline in crude oil prices due to higher inventories. The recession and ongoing unemployment are also said to be responsible for the drop in gas prices.

Oddly, the highest price for gasoline is found in oil-rich Alaska, where a gallon of regular costs three-29 a gallon in Anchorage. In the lower 48 states, gas is most expensive in San Francisco, where it costs an average of three-15 a gallon. St. Louis, Missouri, has one of the lowest prices at two-16 a gallon. Cheaper yet is gas in Tucson, Arizona, where a gallon of regular is as low as two-dollars-eight-cents.
