Mountaintop Cross in Boise to Shine Brighter Than Before

07.01.11 | Sarah Harnisch

Residents in Boise, Idaho, will soon get to see their giant mountaintop cross in a new light. The cross has overlooked the state's capitol city since 1956, and the private group that owns the six-story cross atop "Table Rock" is replacing its flourescent tubes with energy-efficient L.E.D. lamps to reduce electricity use and lower maintenance costs. The L.E.D.'s are also resistant to small-caliber ammunition fire -- which sometimes stikes from vandals who occasionally take shots at the cross.
