The number of Pennsylvania homes having their heat shut off continues to rise. The state's Public Utility Commission says the number of households without heat has risen to nearly 18,000. That is up 5 percent from this time last year.

The utility commission is telling people without service to call their heating provider to make arrangements to pay their bills. The commission is also encouraging people to get more information about financial assistance.
