(Washington, DC) -- Hundreds of illness have already been linked to a salmonella outbreak involving eggs, but many more cases are expected. Often, it can take up to three weeks before the illness is reported to the CDC after a patient is feeling better. Dr. Casey Barton Behravesh with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says salmonella poisoning can become more serious in infants and older people.

Federal officials have linked the contaminated eggs to Iowa-based Wright County Egg. The company has set up a hotline for people to call and are referring people to eggsafety.org for more information. The phone number is 866-272-5582, and you'll hear a recording list all the brand names being recalled.

As of Friday morning, the following brands were affected: Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph's, Boomsma's Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms, and Kemp. (Click here for the most current list)

So far, 270 people have reported getting sick in California, Colorado, and Minnesota. However, more states are involved in the recall including Arizona, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, North Carolina, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Texas. The company recalled 380-million eggs in what the FDA is calling this the largest egg recall in recent years.
