More Billionaires Pledge Fortune To Charity

(New York, NY) -- Investor Warren Buffett and Microsoft founder Bill Gates have set an example that other extremely wealthy individuals are now planning to follow. Over 30 billionaires in the U.S. have pledged to give away at least half of their fortune to charity. "The Giving Pledge" website lists New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison and media tycoon Ted Turner among those who say 50-percent of their wealth will be used to fund philanthropic causes.
Gates and Buffett launched "The Giving Pledge'' in June to convince other billionaires to give away most of their fortune during their lifetime or after their death. They have stated their intentions publicly in a letter.
Four years ago, Buffett pledged to give 99-percent of his wealth to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and family charities. The Gates family has currently given more than 28-billion-dollars of their fortune to the foundation they created in 1994.
