09.26.11 |
Starting next year, one of the largest healthcare systems in Texas will stop hiring smokers. Dr. Mark Millard is with the Baylor Health Care system, which employees 20-thousand people in the Dallas area. He says "it's a way of Baylor saying 'we're gonna walk the talk'." Millard says anyone who has any nicotine in their system will not be be hired. He says they do a drug screen on all applicants, but now, screening for nicotine will be added to the initial drug test. If any nicotine is found, they won't be elligble for employment. Hospital officials healthcare leaders need to be role models.
