A panel of education experts on Wednesday presented to Governor Andrew Cuomo a series of recommendations for reforming New York's public education system. Their ideas included expanding pre-kindergarten programs, consolidating schools and districts to save cash, expanding the school day and expanding the school year for more instruction time. They are even looking at mandating a bar-like exam, the same type used for lawyers before handing out teacher credentials in the state. The recommendations were put together after 11 public meetings across the state. Cuomo said their work was "well done", but politically controversial and expensive to implement. He is not slated to make any changes for months, but may bring a few of them up in his State of the State speech next Wednesday.
