Loved Ones Mark Anniversary Of Flight 3407
02.12.10 |
The first officer from the "Miracle on the Hudson" flight marks the somber anniversary of a deadly aviation disaster. Jeffrey Skiles will join the loved ones of victims from Continental Express Flight 3407 today to walk the final miles of the never completed route. Flight 3407 crashed outside of Buffalo on this date last year, killing 49 passengers and another on the ground. The families of victims of the Newark-to-Buffalo flight are calling for tougher standards inside the cockpit, including better training, banning casual banter and texting while flying. The National Transportation Safety Board places much of the blame on the inexperience pilots and inattention to detail. Skiles and Captain "Chesley" Sully Sullenberger were able to guide crippled US Airways Flight 1549 into the Hudson River last year, saving the lives of all onboard. The incident was hailed as a "Miracle" water landing.
