The final lawsuit in federal court over the crash of Flight 3407 has been settled.

Ping Wang lost her husband in the 2009 crash, and the suit was settled after intense negotiations. "After several conferences with Magistrate McCarthy, the two parties reached a settlement of the claim," says attorney Terry Connors. "The negotiations in this case took place over a lengthy span of time. As we were getting closer to the trial date, tentatively scheduled for May 28th, the negotiations took on an accelerated pace."

Connors says there will never be complete closure for the victims' families. "They still carry with them all the scars of their losses. When it happens suddenly and for no good reason, it's very difficult for anyone to come to grips with this loss. It's been difficult for these five years and I don't see that abating any time in the near future," explains Connors.

The terms of the settlement are confidential.

Connors says there are three lawsuits still pending in state courts. "The three cases in State Supreme Court are scheduled for trial in August. Depositions are being conducted right now, documents are being exchanged and that will continue right up to when trial begins in August," notes Connors.
