King defends the Common Core

NY Education Commissioner John King is once again defending the controversial Common Core learning standards. In a letter to school superintendents and principals, King knocked what he called “misinformation” being circulated at the 20 contentious forums he held across the state in recent months. The embattled education chief said New York has taken steps to ease the burden of new testing on students and teachers and the rigorous standards will better prepare students for college and careers. A spokesman for the New York State United Teachers union, charged that King’s letter is another indication that the state isn’t listening to the public’s objections to the tests.
