Jury Selection Starts In Jerry Sandusky Case
06.05.12 |
Jury selection for former Penn State Assistant Football Coach Jerry Sandusky's trial starts today. Sandusky has been charged on 52 counts of child sex abuse. They're going to have to find people who are impartial to the case, and finding jurors who live in Centre county that aren't connected to Penn State will be next to impossible. One in three people in the county have ties to the college, either by working or having a spouse work there, or by a family member that attends. If they aren't connected, they may at the very least have followed the media on the case from the beginning. 600 jurors were summoned, 211 found to be elligible. That pool of 200 must be narrowed to 12 by Friday, for opening arguments to start Monday. Potential jurors will be asked today about their feelings toward Sandusky, and if they have any personal ties to the defendant, who for 30 years ran a local charity.
