Judge Upholds Ban On Funding Embryonic Stem Cell Research
09.08.10 |
(Washington, DC) -- A federal judge is refusing to lift his injunction on federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth ruled Tuesday the ban will stay in place while the government appeals his ruling. Lamberth's brief order said the Obama administration was incorrect in its assumptions as to what may happen as a result of the ban.
The administration tried to argue the injunction would set back stem cell research and put 13-hundred jobs at risk. Lamberth ruled Tuesday that Congress has the power to change the funding law but "this court is not free to do so."
