08.05.09 |
(Burbank, CA) -- Tears and smiles filled an airport hanger in Burbank, California as former President Bill Clinton brought two freed American journalists home. Laura Ling and Euna Lee had been held captive in North Korea for five months.
Mr. Clinton traveled to the North mid-week and secured their release in talks with North Korean President Kim Jong-il. Ling said she and Lee were overjoyed when they say Clinton and instantly knew that their long nightmare was coming to an end. She expressed deep gratitude to Clinton and his team. Family, friends and former Vice President Al Gore were on hand to greet the private jet that arrived about dawn.
Ling and Lee work for Current TV, a network that Gore is affiliated with. Gore heaped praise on the families of Ling and Lee for never giving up during the long ordeal. A beaming Clinton made no remarks in the hanger at Bob Hope Airport.
