Jesus's Baptismal Site Reopened

07.26.11 | Sarah Harnisch

The place where Jesus was baptized in the Jordan Valley has now been reopened to pilgrims. The site had been closed for 44 years -- abandonded during the following six-day war in 1967. During military unrest in the Jordan Valley, Israeli defense forces mined the area and set up an electronic fence. Now, following restoration and development, the site will be open to all on a regular basis. Officials hope it will be a boost to Israeli toursim.
