Jamaica Turns Suspected Drug Lord Over To U.S.
06.25.10 |
Suspected Jamaican drug lord Christopher "Dudus" Coke has been turned over to the U.S. Coke waived his right to a trial in Jamaica and was extradited Thursday. The 42-year-old was arrested Tuesday near Kingston after a long manhunt which followed deadly riots in Jamaica's capital city last month. Coke was indicted last year in New York on drug and gun trafficking charges. As he left Jamaica, he told supporters to pray for him. In a two-page statement, Coke predicted he would be vindicated and allowed to return to the island as a free man. American officals allege Coke is the leader of the "Shower Posse," a drug gang responsible for hundreds of murders in the cocaine wars of the 1990s.
