Is Marriage... "A Dying Institution?"
05.12.11 |
Shrek actress Cameron Diaz made a startling statement this week that has the Christian community abuzz. The 38 year old actress said "marriage is a dying institution, and we shouldn't live our lives in old traditions that don't suit our world any longer." Pastors are agreeing with at least part of that statement.
The Christian Post reports psychiatrist Dr. Keith Ablow, a member of the Fox News Medical A-Team, said marriage is a source of suffering for a vast majority of people. And Reverends Mike and Trisha Fox of Marriage for Today said, quote, "marriages are failing, and the secular world is noticing." A study by the Barna Research Group showed divorce rates among conservative Christians were significantly higher than that of other faith groups, and much higher than that of atheists or agnostics. The Foxes say Christians need to view the comments as a wake-up call. They agreed that the institution of marriage is dying, but said we as Christians must see this as a challenge-- and stand up to it!
