Is Commercialism Killing Christmas?
12.15.11 |
Is commercialism killing Christmas traditions? The Southern Baptist Research Group and Gallup find 91-percent of Americans, including the majority of non-Christians, observe Christmas in some way. But even among many Christians, Jesus' birth doesn't get top billing. Family get-togethers trump faith with 81-percent of Americans saying those are the most important aspects of Christmas. 89-percent will give gifts and just 47-percent plan to attend Christmas services. Still, 51-percent of U.S. adults say they consider Christmas a religious holiday, and prefer "Merry Christmas" over "Happy Holidays".
