Internet Domains Will No Longer Use The Latin Alphabet Exclusively

(Seoul) -- Online domains will no longer use the Latin alphabet exclusively. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers approved using any of the world's scripts during a meeting today in Seoul, South Korea. The organization says the step could bolster the number of people using the Internet.
ICANN's President and CEO Rod Beckstrom says the Internet has been made much more accessible to people in regions such as Asia, the Middle East and Russia. Beginning November 16th, the program will allow international domain names using scripts such as Chinese, Korean or Arabic for the country code designators at the end of an address name. Over time, the use of IDNs will be expanded to include all types of Internet address names.
