How did news outlets report election results so quickly in PA?

Fox News and CBS News called the U.S. Senate race in Pennsylvania in favor of incumbent Democrat Bob Casey within three minutes. And MSNBC, ABC News and CNN all projected Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf would win another term in Harrisburg within just a few more minutes.

The news organization’s ability to call those races is based on exit polls. Some voters were called or reported their voting patterns online. Information from others was gathered the old-fashioned way, by having pollsters stationed at voting sites around the country.
