Governor Cuomo changes NY's COVID guidelines for schools

Governor Andrew Cuomo wants coronavirus guidelines for schools to be tied to in-school testing, rather than the current surrounding community's positivity rate.

Until now, all schools had to close for in-person instruction if the community's testing rate was at or above nine-percent positive.

Now, schools in that situation can remain open, provided they have data showing a lower positivity-rate.

New York City schools started in-school testing last month and have consistently reported lower positivity rates, as compared to the surrounding community.

The move is expected to keep more schools open.
