Governor David Paterson has named Richard Ravitch as lieutenant governor in hopes that he will help end the month long standoff in the state Senate. Ravitch, the former chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, will serve until the 2010 elections but will not be up for re-election according to Paterson. As lieutenant governor Ravitch will be able to break any tied votes and would preside over Senate sessions.
