Global Hunger Declines For The 1st Time In 15 Years

(Rome) -- The number of people facing chronic hunger globally has dropped for the first time in 15 years. The Food and Agriculture Organization says its because of lower food prices and better economic conditions. The new report shows 925-million people were undernourished this year. That number is down from more than a billion last year, which was the highest in 40-years.
The FAO says most of those found to be undernourished live in developing countries. They accounted for 16-percent of the population in 2010 down from 18-percent the year before. Despite the improvement, the numbers are still behind the United Nations' goals. The U.N. hopes to get the number of people suffering from chronic hunger down to ten-percent in 2015.
